Benefits |
Plasma helps patients who are in need of lymph, who are in shock from scalding or burns, or who have hemorrhagic fever. |
Procedures |
Pass blood through a filter apparatus to separate plasma from the blood cells. Plasma will then be stored in a bag while red cells are sent back to the donor's body. Plasma donation-500 cc each time-can be repeated every 14 days. In addition to being used as a blood component for specific patients, the donated plasma is also put through laboratory processes to create blood products such as Albumin (factor 8 concentrated, factor 9 concentrated), intravenous Immunoglobulin, hepatitis B vaccine, rabies vaccine. |
