Benefits
Platelets help patients with hemophilia and low-platelet counts due to hemorrhagic fever, leukemia, lymph node cancer, etc.
Methods
Platelet transfer is done by a computer-operated apparatus. Blood will be sent through a machine which will automatically distinguish platelets from red blood cells. Once the platelets are separated from the blood, the remaining blood components will be passed back to the body. A session of platelet donation takes approximately 1 hours. 30 minutes.
Important Requirements of Platelet Donors:
In general cases, the donor will not experience physical fatigue and therefore will be able to function normally. One can give platelets every 3 days. Blood donation is allowed one month after platelet donation. |
